We had the pleasure of welcoming two tax advisory interns Marette-Renate and Ingrid Aita to the Rödl & Partner Law Office for a month-long internship. During their time with us, they gained hands-on experience in tax consulting, worked closely with our team, and got a practical insight into the daily work of tax advisors. But don’t just take our word for it – let’s see what they have to say about their experience.

1. How did you first cross paths with Rödl & Partner — and what made you choose to come here?

Marette-Renate Bristol: I first came across Rödl & Partner at an internship fair at the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences, where they were looking for a tax advisory intern. What caught my attention was the friendly and welcoming team, and I immediately felt that this was the place where I wanted to do my internship. That same evening, I submitted my CV to Rödl & Partner.

Ingrid Aita Kuusik: I first came across Rödl & Partner at my university's internship fair. The firm stood out because of its international reach and strong reputation in legal and tax services. What really convinced me, though, was the opportunity to gain hands-on experience.

2. If Rödl & Partner were a person, how would you describe them?

Marette-Renate Bristol: If Rödl & Partner were a person, they would be open-minded, friendly and full of positive energy — someone you’d naturally gravitate toward, not just because they’re kind and supportive, but also because they bring a refreshing mix of professionalism and personality.

Ingrid Aita Kuusik: They’re supportive, wise, and just the right amount of serious.

3. What’s your ‘intern superpower’ — the one thing you mastered or discovered during your time here?

Marette-Renate Bristol: My intern superpower is adaptability. I learned new things quickly and could do different tasks. This helped me grow and be more confident during my internship.

Ingrid Aita Kuusik: Over the course of my internship, I became really good at figuring things out from scratch. Even without all the answers or a clear roadmap, I could dive into research, explore different solutions, and make progress on my own. I surprised myself with how quickly I could adapt — and it pushed me to become a more independent and confident problem-solver.

4. What’s the most unexpected skill you picked up during your internship?

Marette-Renate Bristol: The most unexpected skill I picked up during my internship was learning how to write a memorandum. I didn’t expect to develop this skill, but it was a great opportunity to practice clear and concise writing, which is essential in a professional environment

Ingrid Aita Kuusik: How to write a memorandum. Before the internship, I had never even heard of one, but during my time here, I had to write them multiple times a week. While I’m still not fully confident in writing them, I’m glad I now understand what a memorandum is and have a general idea of how to structure and approach one.

5. What would you put in a “Welcome Kit” for the next intern?

Marette-Renate Bristol: My advice would be to keep an open mind, have the courage to ask questions, and stay curious.

Ingrid Aita Kuusik: My advice: don’t be afraid to ask questions — that’s how you learn.

6. If your internship experience were a meme, emoji, or GIF, what would it be?

Marette-Renate Bristol: If my internship experience were a meme, it would be the „Success Kid“ meme – feeling proud and accomplished after learning something new or finishing a task, even if it took some time and effort.

Ingrid Aita Kuusik: It would either be the emoji  brain" Emoji - Download for free – Iconduck or the emoji Clever Emoji: Over 1,958 Royalty-Free Licensable Stock Illustrations & Drawings | Shutterstock because every single day I gained so much knowledge and now I definitely feel a lot smarter than when I started!

7. If you could write a thank-you note to one person here, who would it be — and what would you say?

Marette-Renate Bristol: If I could write a thank-you note, it would be to Alice Salumets. I would thank her for her guidance, patience, and support throughout my internship. She helped me grow professionally by always encouraging me to ask questions and challenge myself. I truly appreciate the opportunity to learn from her, and I feel more confident in my abilities because of her mentorship.

Ingrid Aita Kuusik: To Alice Salumets. It would say: “Thank you for this amazing opportunity. I’m truly grateful that you chose me for this internship. I learned so much during my time here, and the knowledge and experience I’ve gained will definitely help me not only in my future career but also in my studies.“
